Lamarr, the main man of the trio, was originally a drummer and trumpet player, but he switched to the powerful Hammond at the age of 22. Ever since, he and his group have been reinterpreting the throbbing rhythms and smoky funk of 1970s soul jazz. Over his career, saxophonist Benjamin Herman has frequently demonstrated his skill in handling an organ trio in his work with organ specialists such as Larry Goldings, Carlo de Wijs, Sven Figee and Rhoda Scott. Herman always plays with that little bit more grit and aggression with a Hammond nearby. This unique collaboration certainly promises plenty of fireworks!
