Drummer Philippe Lemm finds his inspiration in the big city, which for him means freedom.
Lemm’s metropolitan inspiration is audible in his exuberantly vibrant approach to modern jazz. His style of drumming is smooth, and the ease with which his trio moves from complex jazz to more rock-based expression impresses. Lemm relocated in 2011 from the Netherlands to the Big Apple: New York. There he met pianist Angelo di Loreto and bass player Jeff Koch, with whom he has been musically communicating ever since at a high level. Another New Yorker inspired the latest album by the trio, City Birds: Craig Anthony, who crafted the artwork for the album. He painted the band members as three birds, symbolizing the quest for freedom within the rules of the big city.
