In recent years, the powerful and soulful voice of Shirma Rouse could be heard on stage with DJ Hardwell, during late-night jam sessions on the Rotterdam jazz circuit, accompanying a gospel choir, and on her tour that honoured her hero Aretha Franklin.
Rouse is bringing all those guises with her to Festival Jazz International Rotterdam, but the focus this evening will be her solid basis as a jazz singer. Indeed, Rouse is offering a preview of her first real jazz album, scheduled for release in 2020. Her repertoire consists of not only standards but also her own compositions. Thanks to her tremendous creativity and singing talent, we’re confident that her interpretations and performance will once again amaze.
