She then moved to Amsterdam, where in 2017 she graduated from the Conservatorium. That same year she released her debut album First Page. Since then she has established herself firmly on the Dutch and European jazz scene with her distinctive style, blending sensitive minimalism with perfectly timed flourishes. In 2018 she won the Dutch Jazz Competition, and in 2019 she was chosen as one of the two Young VIPS. Sun-Mi’s acoustic quintet includes carefully chosen classmates, among them the duo Nicolo Ricci (tenor sax) and Alistair Payne (trumpet), whom she selected for their dark, breathing sound.

Sun-Mi Hong Quintet  gave a concert last July at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, during North Sea Round Town.
