The sextet works from a traditional, acoustic jazz base, but is constantly looking for ways to break rules and cross boundaries. It achieves that through exciting, dissonant sax work, uneven time signatures and most of all a limitless reserve of energy. The six band members come from all corners of the world and feed their various backgrounds into the sound of the band. Organized annually by Codarts Rotterdam in collaboration with Jazz International Rotterdam, the Erasmus Jazz Prize aims to help young jazz talents break onto the national and international jazz scene. That might very well happen soon with We Are 6.
